Edwin Encarnacion to Mariners, Carlos Santana to Indians in 3-team trade

Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Edwin Encarnacion is headed to the Seattle Mariners and Carlos Santana is going to the Cleveland Indians as part of a three-team trade.

Sources told MLB.com and The Athletic that first baseman/left fielder Jake Bauers and cash are also headed to the Indians. Infielder Yandy Diaz and Minor League right-handed pitcher Cole Sulser are also headed to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Mariners are also getting a Competitive Balance Round B Draft pick in the swap.

Encarnacion, 35, hit .246 with 32 home runs and 107 RBIs in 137 games last season for the Indians. The three-time All-Star joined the Indians in 2017 as a free agent. Encarnacion owns a career .264 batting average and has 380 career home runs. The 14-year veteran has at least 100 RBIs in six of his last seven seasons.

He is set to make $21.6 million in 2019 and has a $20 million team option in 2020 with a $5 million buyout.

Santana hit .229 with 24 home runs and 86 RBIs in 161 games last season for the Philadelphia Phillies. The 32-year-old veteran played the first eight seasons of his career for the Indians before joining the Phillies in free agency in December 2017.

Santana was traded to the Mariners on Dec. 3 as part of the Jean Segura deal. He has $34.5 million remaining on the final two seasons of his contract.
