White Sox trade for Pirates RHP Ivan Nova

Dec. 11 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox have traded for Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Ivan Nova.

Sources told MLB Network and The Athletic that the teams agreed to the trade on Tuesday and the deal is pending a review of medical records for the players involved.

Nova, 31, posted a 4.19 ERA and a 9-0 record in 29 appearances last season for the Pirates. He owns a career 4.26 ERA in nine seasons for the New York Yankees and Pirates. Nova has a 78-64 record as a starter.

He is due $9.1 million in 2019, the final year on his contract.

The White Sox have an abundance of top prospects they could send the Pirates in the swap. Outfielder Eloy Jimenez ranks as the No. 3 prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. Chicago also has No. 19 prospect Michael Kopech, No. 25 prospect Dylan Cease, No. 44 prospect Luis Robert, No. 49 prospect nick Madrigal, No. 59 prospect Dane Dunning and No. 77 prospect Blake Rutherford in the top 100.
