Red Sox bring back RHP Nathan Eovaldi on $67.5M pact

Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Postseason hero Nathan Eovaldi is staying in Beantown after agreeing to a contract extension with the Boston Red Sox.

A source told MLB.com that the right-handed pitcher agreed to a four-year, $67.5 million pact with the Red Sox on Thursday.

Eovaldi, 28, posted a 3.33 ERA and a 3-3 record in 12 appearances this season for the Red Sox. He joined the World Series champions in July as part of a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. Eovaldi had a 4.26 ERA and a 2-4 record in 10 appearances with the Rays before moving to Boston.

For his career, Eovalid has a 4.16 ERA nad a 44-53 record. He made $2 million last season.

Eovaldi posted a 1.61 ERA and a 2-1 record in the 2018 postseason. He allowed just one earned run in three World Series appearances against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Eovaldi allowed a total of four earned runs in his six appearances this postseason.

The deal is still pending a physical. Red Sox star relievers Craig Kimbrel and Joe Kelly are still free agents.
