Reds interested in trade for Indians' Corey Kluber, Trevor Bauer

Dec. 4 (UPI) -- The Cincinnati Reds are one of the teams interested in acquiring Cleveland Indians arm Corey Kluber or Trevor Bauer.

Sources informed MLB Network of the Reds' interest, but said there hasn't been recent progress on a deal. The National League Central franchise is seeking a top pitcher and are not among the favorites to sign top free agent Patrick Corbin, according to the report.

Sources told MLB.com that the New York Mets have spoken with the Indians about Kluber. Mets manager Mickey Callaway was previously Kluber's pitching coach in Cleveland. The right-handed starting pitcher has also been linked to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Kluber signed a five-year, $38.5 million contract extension with the Tribe in April of 2015. He is due $17 million in 2019 and has club options for $17.5 million in 2020 and $18 million in 2021.

League sources told USA Today in November that the Indians are "much more inclined" to trade Bauer than Kluber or Carlos Carrasco.

Bauer, 27, is eligible for arbitration this offseason. He made $6.5 million last season. The right-handed hurler posted a career-best 2.21 ERA and a 12-6 record in 28 appearances this season for the Indians, earning his first All-Star appearance. Bauer has a career 3.94 ERA and a 59-47 record in seven seasons. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft made his Major League Baseball debut in 2012 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was traded to the Indians on Dec. 11, 2012 as part of a three-team, nine-player exchange, also involving the Cincinnati Reds.

Kluber, 32, is a two-time Cy Young Award winner. The three-time All-Star had a 2.89 ERA and a 20-7 record in 33 appearances this season for the Cleveland. Kluber won a league-best 18 games last season and posted baseball's best ERA (2.25). He also had a league-best seven complete games over his last two seasons. Kluber has a career 3.09 ERA and a 96-55 record in eight seasons on the hill, all with the Indians.

The Reds had the second-worst ERA in the National League last season.
