Nelly tries to recruit Bryce Harper to St. Louis Cardinals

Dec. 3 (UPI) -- It's the offseason of Bryce Harper and Nelly is an unofficial recruiter for the St. Louis Cardinals, working to bring the slugger to his hometown.

Harper and his wife were attending a Florida Georgia Line concert -- along with Chicago Cubs star Kris Bryant and his wife -- when the group met the rapper backstage on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Nelly -- a St. Louis native -- made his plea for the Cardinals front office and owner Bill DeWitt to reach out to him in order to sign Harper.

"Yo, St. Louis Cardinals fans, yo I'm here with the hottest free agent to be, my man Bryce Harper," Nelly said in a social media video. "Listen, Bill, Mr. DeWitt, call me, I got this. I'm doing all of the negotiations. He just needs a little convincing man. That's all. They don't know. He knows."

"I'm working out here y'all," Nelly wrote for the caption on the video. "STL talk to me."

Harper, 26, hit .249 with 34 home runs and a career-high 100 RBIs while also taking a league-high 130 walks in 159 games this season for the Washington Nationals. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft has played his entire seven-year Major League Baseball tenure with the Nationals.

The six-time All-Star and former National League MVP has plenty of rumored suitors this offseason, including the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, among others.

Harper rejected a one-year, $17.9 million qualifying offer from the Nationals in November. A source told the Washington Post and USA Today that Harper also rejected a 10-year, $300 million offer from the Nationals on the last day of the 2018 season.
