Sources told Yahoo Sports that the contract is for two years with about $15 million guaranteed

Richards, 30, posted a 3.66 ERA and a 5-4 record in 16 starts last season for the Los Angeles Angels. The eight-year veteran also led the American League in wild pitches.

He had Tommy John surgery in July, meaning he could miss the 2019 season.

Richards owns a 3.54 ERA and has a 45-38 record during his career, all spent with the Angels. He has made just 28 starts in the last three seasons due to arm issues.

He was also linked to the Los Angeles Dodgers before agreeing to terms with the Padres. Richards posted a farewell message to the Angels on Twitter.

"Today I had to make one of the toughest decisions of my career," he wrote. "The emotions I'm feeling are bittersweet. While we're excited to start a new chapter as a Padre, it's not easy to say goodbye to the only team I've known."
