Nov. 27 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed free agent outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall to a one-year contract.

Pittsburgh announced the signing on Tuesday. Chissenhall, 30, hit a career-best .321 with one home run and 9 RBIs in 29 games last season for the Cleveland Indians. The No. 29 overall pick in the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft played the first eight seasons of his career with the Indians.

The Pirates designated right-handed pitcher Alex McRae for assignment to make room for Chisenhall on the 40-man roster.

Sources told MLB Network and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the deal is for $2.75 million.

Chisenhall owns a career .268 batting average and has 64 home runs. He was limited last season due to a severe left calf strain.
