Dodgers give Clayton Kershaw $93M contract

Nov. 2 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have reached an agreement with Clayton Kershaw on a three-year contract extension.

Los Angeles announced the deal on Friday. Sources told MLB Network that the deal pays Kershaw $31 million annually until 2021. He can earn an additional $1 million each season for making 24 starts, 26 starts, 28 starts and 30 starts. He could also get $1.5 million for winning the National League Cy Young Award.

The left-handed hurler signed a seven-year, $215 million pact in 2013. He posted a 9-5 record this season with a 2.73 ERA in 26 starts. Kershaw, 30, led baseball with 18 wins last season while posted a 2.31 ERA and finishing second in the Cy Young Award race.

The seven-time All-Star is a three-time Cy Young Award winner and was the 2014 National League MVP. Kershaw has pitched all 11 of his MLB seasons with the Dodgers. He owns a career 2.39 ERA.

"Man I'm happy to hear the Kersh news! Yeah Kersh," Dodgers pitcher Kenley Jansen tweeted.

Kershaw has made more than $164 million in salary since being selected as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2006 MLB June Amateur Draft.
