Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton hits walk-off homer vs. Mariners

June 21 (UPI) -- New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton hit a 453-foot walk-off two-run home run in a 7-5 win against the Seattle Mariners.

The shot came in the ninth inning of the win Wednesday at Yankee Stadium in New York City. New York staged a comeback after facing a 5-0 deficit in the fifth inning.

The Yankees used an RBI single from Aaron Judge in the bottom of the frame to plate tow runs. Didi Gregorious brought in another run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gary Sanchez tied the game with a two-run shot of his own in the bottom of the eighth frame.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman put out the Mariners in order in the top of the final inning, setting the stage for the "Bronx Bombers."

Aaron Hicks grounded out and Aaron Judge struck out to begin the frame. Gregorious then got on as the go-ahead run with a single to center field.

Then Stanton stepped in to face Mariners reliever Ryan Cook. The right-handed hurler buzzed in an 83.8 mph slider for a strike to begin the exchange. Stanton fouled off the next offering. He didn't take the next slider looking.

Stanton belted the 84.7 mph pitch to deep center field, sending the ball over the outfield wall at 117.9 mph, according to Statcast.

"It's just cool, man. It's a fun moment," Stanton told reporters. "It's good future memories. That's what you always want, man. You help win a game and you've got the whole team waiting for you."

The 2017 National League MVP went 22-for-4, with two RBIs, two strikeouts and a run scored in the win. He is now hitting .255 with 18 home runs and 42 RBIs on the season.
