Pirates fan prompts beer tornado while trying to catch foul ball

June 20 (UPI) -- A Pittsburgh Pirates fan failed to catch a foul ball and lost his beer in the process during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The maddening moment occurred during the Brewers' 3-2 win Tuesday at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Milwaukee led 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning at the time.

Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta began the inning by forcing Josh Harrison into a ground out. Then Corey Dickerson stepped to the plate.

Dickerson took a called strike before taking two balls. He then fouled off four consecutive pitches.

One of those hacks resulted in a ball going over the dugout on the first baseline. The ball hovered in the air until dropping quickly. Fans reached there arms over the Brewers' dugout trying to bring in the souvenir.

One of the fans held a tall beer can in one hand while trying to bring in the ball with the other. Instead of wrapping the ball up with his left hand -- or sitting his beer down -- the fan let the ball go through his arms and drill the top of the beverage. The beer slammed against the dugout roof and sprayed suds everywhere, dousing nearby fans.

The fan picked up the beer and drank the remnants.

Dickerson ended up striking out on nine pitches. Peralta escaped the inning by getting Starling Marte to fly out to right field.
