Pittsburgh Pirates fan makes fan makes great grab from stands

May 18 (UPI) -- A young fan made a terrific leaping catch during a Pittsburgh Pirates win against the San Diego Padres.

The boy made the sensational snare during the eighth inning of the Pirates' 5-4 triumph Thursday at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Pirates second baseman Max Moroff was at the plate facing Padres pitcher Kirby Yates. Moroff was down 0-2 in the count, before Yates tossed in a 93.3-mph fastball. The infielder smacked the offering down the left field line. It hovered into the stands and closed in on a little boy that happened to have his glove with him.

The boy eyed the ball before timing a jump and leaping into the stars. He pulled down the 'out' before falling onto the cement. He held up the ball as the other fans in the stands cheered.

Pittsburgh already led 5-4 at the time of the boy's leaping catch. The Pirates trailed 2-0 entering the fourth inning, before plating three runs in the bottom of the frame. The Padres regained a 4-3 edge in the next inning, but the Pirates tied the game in the bottom of the fifth frame after an RBI single by Josh Bell.

The Pirates got the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning after Corey Dickerson reached base on a throwing error and Gregory Polanco came into score.

Pittsburgh and San Diego meet for the second game of the three game series at 7:05 p.m. Friday at PNC Park.
