Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh Pirates star Andrew McCutchen welcomed a newborn son this week.

He gave him the name 'Steel.'

That's so Pittsburgh.

McCutchen broke the news of his first-born child Wednesday on his social media accounts. He fathered the child with Maria McCutchen. The couple married in 2014 at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh. McCutchen proposed to Maria in 2013 on the Ellen show.

"Steel Stefan McCutchen born 11/27/17 at 3:21 AM. 8lbs 15oz. I am so thankful for a healthy baby and wife," McCutuchen wrote on Instagram. "Watching my wife go thru this journey has made me appreciate, respect and love her even more than I already do. She literally is Superwoman in my eyes. Now, here lays my son. Seeing you for the first time is something I cannot put into words. I am already a proud daddy! Thank you God for giving me the gift of a baby boy!Okay I gotta go and stare at him some more."

McCutchen, 31, posted three photos of his newborn son. He announced the pregnancy on June 30 with a video on social media. The baby was expected on Dec. 2.

The nine-year veteran has spent his entire career with the Pirates. He took home the National League MVP in 2013 and is a five-time All-Star. McCutchen made $14 million this season. The Pirates have picked up his $14.5 million club option for 2018. He isn't a free agent until 2019, but a source told MLB Network that the San Francisco Giants have remained in contact with the Pirates regarding the star outfielder.

McCutchen whacked 28 home runs in 2017, his highest total since 2012.

While trade rumors swirl around the blazing-fast All-Star, you have to think his son's name holds staying power.
