Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander and supermodel Kate Upton released a photo from their weekend wedding in Italy.

Each of the newlyweds posted the photo Monday on their Instagram accounts.

"I feel so lucky that I got to marry my best friend!! @justinverlander," Upton wrote on her social media account. "Thank you to our family and friends for making this weekend so fun and magical!"

Upton credited the photograph to photographer KT Merry.

"Happy wife happy life! What an amazing beginning to our journey together! @kateupton #justmarried," Verlander wrote on his Instagram.

The photo features Upton wearing a flowing white dress while holding a bouquet. Verlander is outfitted in a fitted black tuxedo and bowtie. The newlyweds are both wearing wide smiles as their friends cheer and celebrate adjacent to the aisle they are walking down.

Valentino made Upton's wedding dress.

MLB.com reported that the ceremony took place at the Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco resort in Italy's Tuscany region.

The wedding went down on Saturday. Verlander proposed to Upton in 2016 and won his first World Series on Nov. 1 with the Astros.

This summer, Upton told Access Hollywood that she was "delaying everything" when it came to the wedding.

"Well, I would say that I am delaying everything about weddings," Upton told Access Hollywood. "The planning process is really difficult and ... all of my friends, I'm like so sick of answering their questions. They're like 'Oh can I have this? Can I have that? Oh can I bring this plus one?' I'm like no! You just met her!"

Verlander, 34, missed the Astros' World Series parade on Friday in downtown Houston. About a million people attended the parade, according to ABC 13 Houston.

"I can't really put into words how special this is," Verlander told MLB.com after Game 7 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. "I want to thank all my teammates, past and present. Having been through what I've been through in the past, it makes it that much more special."

The six-time All-Star and former American League MVP is due $28 million, annually, through 2019. He has a $22 million vesting option in 2020. Upton has a net worth of about $20 million, according to The Richest.
