The Angels also placed infielder Jefry Marte on the 10-day disabled list with a left foot fracture. The move for Marte, who is batting .173 in 45 games, is retroactive to Tuesday.

To create a spot on the 40-man roster for Robinson, Los Angeles designated right-hander Brooks Pounders for assignment. Pounders, 26, posted a 10.45 ERA in 11 major league appearances but was stronger at Triple-A Salt Lake with a 2.38 mark in 38 games.

The Angels enter play Friday one game behind the Minnesota Twins for the second wild card spot in the American League.
