The Boston Red Sox placed outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. on the 10-day disabled list with a sprained left thumb, the team announced Wednesday.

To fill the spot on the 25-man roster, the Red Sox recalled infielder Deven Marrero from Triple-A Pawtucket prior to Wednesday night's road game against the Cleveland Indians.

Bradley, 27, suffered the injury in the seventh inning of Tuesday night's 9-1 win against the Cleveland Indians while sliding awkwardly into home plate to avoid a tag by catcher Yan Gomes. Bradley was ruled safe but appeared to twist his left hand, shaking the hand as he stood up. His diagnosis followed an MRI on Wednesday in Boston.

Bradley is batting .262 with 14 home runs, 54 RBIs and 50 runs scored for the Red Sox this season. He has a .992 fielding percentage with four assists in 106 starts in center field.

Bradley went 2-for-3 with a home run in Tuesday's game and reached base safely in each of his last seven games, hitting .400 (8-for-20) with a .556 on-base percentage.

Bradley has appeared in 501 major league games since being selected by Boston in the supplemental round (40th overall) in 2011, batting .243 with 54 home runs, 224 RBIs and 250 runs scored.

Marrero, 26, has hit safely in each of his last 10 games at Triple-A, batting .447 (17-for-38) with three doubles and two home runs in that span. In 58 games over three stints with Boston this season, he is hitting .212 with seven doubles, three home runs and 23 RBI.

Marrero is batting .208 with four home runs and 26 RBIs over 96 career major league games, all with Boston (2015-17).
