Minnesota Twins: Robbie Grossman placed on DL

The Minnesota Twins placed outfielder/designated hitter Robbie Grossman on the 10-day disabled list Friday with a fractured left thumb.

Grossman, playing right field, suffered the injury in Thursday's second game of a doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians after he collided with center fielder Byron Buxton on a fly ball in the gap in the second inning.

Grossman singled in his first at-bat after the collision but was replaced before his turn came up the second time around.

Twins manager Paul Molitor said after Twins' 4-2 victory in the second game to salvage a doubleheader split with the Indians that Grossman will miss at least three weeks.

Grossman is hitting .243 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs in 98 games this season. His .367 on-base percentage is tied for first on the Twins with Joe Mauer and ranks 13th in the American League.

To replace Grossman on the 25-man roster, the Twins recalled catcher Mitch Garver from Triple-A Rochester. In addition, the Twins returned right-hander Aaron Slegers, who was the 26th man for Thursday's doubleheader, to Triple-A.

Garver, 26, is batting .291 with 17 home runs and 45 RBIs in 88 games for Rochester this season. He will be looking to make his major league debut.

Garver has a career minor league average of .271 with 51 homers and 286 RBIs in 508 games.
