ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Rays catcher Wilson Ramos left the Monday game after the Baltimore Orioles' Ruben Tejada hit him on the helmet with his bat during his backswing at Tropicana Field.

Ramos was bleeding and was taken off the field after the scary incident. The laceration required six staples to close.

The bat shattered as the barrel struck Ramos' helmet on a swing that resulted in a groundout by Tejada.

Jesus Sucre replaced Ramos in the top of the fifth inning.
