July 20 (UPI) -- Who needs leather when you have silky soft hands?

Toronto Blue Jays infielders Josh Donaldson and Ryan Goins pulled off two barehanded outs Thursday against the Boston Red Sox.

The first play came early in the contest, when Donaldson showed why he is one of Major League Baseball's premier third basemen.

The Jays had a 1-0 lead with no outs in the bottom of the first inning at Fenway Park when Red Sox All-Star Mookie Betts stepped up to the plate. Betts worked a 2-2 count on Jays lefty Francisco Liriano before swinging away. The laser screamed down the third baseline toward Donaldson.

Donaldson scooped up the ball with his throwing hand and fired it across the diamond in one motion, beating Betts to the bag by a step.

Goins, the Jays' shortstop, stepped up at the plate and in the field. His sixth inning play got the Jays out of the frame. Jays righty Joe Biagini fired in a 3-2 offering to Red Sox third baseman Deven Marrero on that play. Marrero turned the pitch around, hitting it straight at the pitcher. Biagini managed to get a glove on the missile, deflecting it into the waiting palm of Goins. The shortstop fired the ball at first base to get Marrero for the third out, preserving his team's 7-3 edge.

Donaldson was 1-for-4 with an RBI, a walk and three strikeouts in the 8-6 victory. Goins was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI and a walk.

The Jays (43-51) are in last place, while the Red Sox (54-43) are in first place in the American League East. Boston and Toronto split the four game series.
