Seattle Mariners shortstop Jean Segura, who has been sidelined since June 2 with a high ankle sprain, was activated prior to Wednesday's game against the Detroit Tigers.
Segura is hitting .341, which ranks second in the American League, to go along with four homers and 20 RBIs. This was Segura's second stint on the disabled list this season after being sidelined April 11-24 with a strained hamstring.
Segura suffered his latest injury during the fifth inning of a June 1 game against Colorado.
Segura, 27, hit .125 in two rehab games with Triple-A Tacoma.
To make room on the roster, the Mariners optioned infielder Tyler Smith to Tacoma. Smith, 25, hit .188 in 10 games with Seattle this season.
