The Chicago Cubs placed right-hander Kyle Hendricks on the 10-day disabled list Thursday due to an injured middle finger on his pitching hand.

The right-hander was scheduled to start Friday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Left-hander Mike Montgomery will start in his place.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Hendricks' injury isn't serious. He is hoping rest will solve the issue.

Hendricks is 4-3 with a 4.09 ERA in 11 starts this season.

The 27-year-old is coming off a superb 2016 campaign in which he went 16-8, led the National League with a 2.13 ERA and finished third in NL Cy Young Award voting.
