BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles pulled Manny Machado from the game before the fourth inning of Wednesday's contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates because of what the team called "left wrist soreness."

Machado appeared to injure the wrist in the second inning when Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen slid into him on the front end of a double steal. The medical staff came onto the field and treated the third baseman for a few minutes, but Machado remained in.

He was scheduled to lead off the fourth, and Ruben Tejada replaced him.

Machado grounded into a double play in his first at-bat.
