Washington Nationals place Jayson Werth on DL, recall Ryan Raburn

The Washington Nationals placed outfielder Jayson Werth on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to June 4 with a bruised left foot and called up outfielder/infielder Ryan Raburn from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.

The Nationals also designated right-handed pitcher Rafael Martin for assignment, president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo announced.

The 38-year-old Werth was batting .262 with a .367 on-base percentage and .447 slugging percentage in 47 games this season. He has five doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 18 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

Werth was last on the disabled list in 2015 with a wrist injury.

The 36-year-old Raburn was promoted to the major leagues for the first time this season since he was acquired in a minor league trade with the Chicago White Sox on May 26.

A veteran utility man with 11 years in the majors, Raburn was hitting .274 in the Triple-A International League with four doubles, one triple, four home runs, 18 RBI, 20 walks and 14 runs scored. Since joining Syracuse on May 27 after the deal, he has hit .261 with a homer and five RBI in six games.

Raburn is a .253 career hitter with 91 home runs in 922 major league games. Last season, he played for the Colorado Rockies, mostly in the outfield. He also has been with the Detroit Tigers (2011) and Cleveland Indians (2013).

The 33-year-old Martin was used out of the bullpen this season by the Nationals. He had a 2-0 record with a 4.50 ERA in 21 career games as a reliever with Washington.
