Tim Tebow catches Michael Jordan with latest moonshot

By Alex Butler

May 22 (UPI) -- At this rate, Tim Tebow will have more home runs than career touchdown passes by season's end. The former quarterback hit another shot Sunday.

Tebow is currently manning the outfield for the Columbia Fireflies, a New York Mets Single-A affiliate. He has three home runs and 14 RBI with a .230 batting average through 35 games.

Before Sunday's homer, Tebow hadn't gone yard since April 9.

The 29-year-old looked great Sunday against the West Virginia Power, swatting an opposite-field behemoth in the fifth inning of the Fireflies' 6-3 loss. Tebow was 2-for-4 in the contest, with two RBI. He also had a double. His home run came off of Dylan Prohoroff.

Tebow ripped the 1-0 offering for a solo shot over the left-field fence before it took one bounce in Bojangles' Berm.

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner was in an 0-for-17 slump heading into the weekend.

He now has as many home runs as Michael Jordan did when "His Airness" suited up for the Birmingham Barons in 1994. Jordan also had 51 RBI, 30 stolen bases and hit .202 in 127 games for the Chicago White Sox's Double-A affiliate.

While his outlook to comeback as an NFL quarterback seems like a long shot at this point, his likelihood of being called up to the Bigs isn't as gloomy. Earlier this month, a Mets source told the New York Post that the franchise is considering moving Tebow up to a higher level in the minor leagues. The move isn't expected until after the July 11 All-Star Game.
