April 15 (UPI) -- Major League Baseball umpire Dale Scott had a concussion after taking a foul tip to the mask Friday at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The MLB veteran began umpiring pro baseball in 1986 and has been on the wrong end of several fastballs throughout his career.

Scott, 57, was umpiring the Baltimore Orioles' 6-4 victory when the latest incident occurred.

Mark Trumbo was up at the plate in the eighth inning when he fouled off a Ryan Tepera pitch into the veteran officiator.

After being hit with the ball, he stumped backwards before being brought down to his knee. Second base umpire Brian Knight took over for Scott behind home plate.

Scott left the stadium on a spinal board. The delay lasted about 15 minutes.

Scott was ruled out for the remainder of the series. He also suffered a concussion after being hit with a foul tip last season.

Scott was released from the hospital on Saturday morning in Toronto.
