Martha Stewart dooms New York Yankees' perfect game with a single tweet

April 10 (UPI) -- Michael Pineda took a perfect game into the seventh inning before Martha Stewart ruined everything.

The New York Yankees pitcher had all zeros atop the scoreboard at Yankee Stadium against the Tampa Bay Rays before allowing a double to Evan Longoria.

But before Longoria nixed Pineda's perfect day, the cooking maven and home décor queen broke one of baseball's most cherished unwritten rules: She talked about the perfect game before it was over.

"It's top of the seventh here at Yankee Stadium and the Yankees are pitching a perfect game versus the Tampa Bay Rays," Stewart tweeted Monday afternoon.

Pineda escaped the seventh inning without allowing a run. His biggest error came when Logan Morrison ripped a home run to centerfield in the eighth frame. Pineda was pulled later in the inning for Tyler Clippard.

Tampa Bay responded to Stewart's tweet after the perfect game was lost, saying: "fake news."

The Yankees won the matchup 8-1. Pineda [1-1] allowed two hits and a run while tossing 11 strikeouts in his 7.2 innings of work.
