April 5 (UPI) -- Pitcher Madison Bumgarner smashed two home runs on opening day, but he won't give his bat up to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

The sweet swinging San Francisco Giants hurler will instead send his helmet to Cooperstown, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Bumgarner was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI in the Giants' 6-5 loss Sunday to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. He allowed three runs and six hits while tossing 11 strikeouts in seven innings on the mound.

Bumgarner was the first pitcher ever to hit two home runs on opening day. He told the team website that he would be happy to pinch hit if needed.

"I'll be more than happy to do anything I can do to help us win," Bumgarner told the team website.

His 16 career home runs lead all active pitchers and give him the Giants' franchise record.
