St. Louis Cardinals, Stephen Piscotty close on multi-year deal

April 3 (UPI) -- Third-year outfielder Stephen Piscotty is closing in on an extension with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 26-year-old and the franchise have "made progress on a multiyear extension," according to MLB.com's Jon Morosi. St. Louis also has a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday to announce the extension, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Piscotty is not yet arbitration eligible. During his rookie season, he hit .305 with seven home runs and 39 RBI. His sophomore campaign included a .273 clip with 22 home runs and 85 RBI in 153 games for the Cardinals. He hit .151 with eight hits in 53 at-bats during spring training.

Piscotty went 1-for-3 with two walks and two strikeouts in the Cardinals' opening day win against the Chicago Cubs.
