Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Josh Thole suffered a torn hamstring and probably will be sidelined the rest of the season, according to a report Saturday.

The report by AZCentral.com was based on the assessment of Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo.

Thole is seeking a second opinion on his injury but it could require surgery. He was injured while running the bases during a game last Wednesday. He said he felt his hamstring pop and had to be helped off the field.

Thole, 30, signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks in January, and he was hoping to make the team as a backup.

He hit .169 with one homer in 50 games for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016. Thole's best season was in 2010, when he hit .277 for the New York Mets.
