Watch: Ken Griffey Jr. races IndyCar with Mario Andretti

March 14 (UPI) -- Hall of Fame baseball legend Ken Griffey Jr. was known for his power and sweet swing.

But it was the sweet sound of horsepower that had 'The Kid' elated on Sunday. Griffey joined racing legend Mario Andretti in St. Petersburg, Fla in an IndyCar for the start of the 2017 Verizon INDYCAR Series season.

"This is going to be fun," Griffey told MLB.com. "I've gone 100 MPH in a car but not like this. What I promise is im going to keep my eyes closed for all 14 turns. Then I'll look good when I come back."

Griffey, 47, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame last summer. He finished his 22-year career with 630 home runs.

IndyCar drivers can race for as fast as 227 MPH.
