March 8 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez signed a multiyear deal to be a MLB analyst on Fox Sports, the network announced Tuesday.

Rodriguez, who announced his retirement as a player on Feb. 21, served as a guest analyst for Fox during each of the past two postseasons.

"I'm excited to continue working with the Fox Sports family," Rodriguez said in a statement. "It'll be great to get back on set with the guys for the regular season and postseason, especially the All-Star Game in my hometown of Miami."

Rodriguez, 41, finished his 22-year career with 696 homers, fourth in baseball history.

The Yankees are paying Rodriguez $21 million in 2017 in the final season of a 10-year, $275 million contract. The team released him as a player last August.

Fox said Rodriguez will be used as a studio analyst and as an in-game analyst during Saturday broadcasts. He will also do feature reporting for the pregame show.

"Bringing Alex back was a priority of ours and we are fortunate to have him as a key contributor to our baseball coverage," said John Entz, Fox Sports President of Production & Executive Producer. "His potential is off the charts and he's been an incredibly quick learner in the world of television."
