Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Seasoned southpaw Javier Lopez announced his retirement from baseball Wednesday.

Lopez, 39, played 14 major league seasons for the Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and San Francisco Giants.

He won rings with the 2007 Red Sox and the Giants in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Lopez posted a 3.48 ERA, had a 30-17 career record, and notched 14 saves in 839 career appearances.

"More than anything, it's just time. It's a young man's game. Although I think I can compete, it's getting harder and harder to get ready for spring," Lopez told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

In November, SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reported the free agent was "soliciting offers" from multiple teams and expected to pitch in 2017.

Lopez made $5 million last season.
