Los Angeles Angels sign Dustin Ackley to minor-league pact

The Los Angeles Angels signed infielder Dustin Ackley to a minor-league contract on Saturday and invited him to spring training.

The left-handed-hitting Ackley has been seeking employment since being released by the New York Yankees in November.

Ackley, 28, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 draft by the Seattle Mariners. He reached the majors during the 2011 season and spent parts of five seasons with Seattle before being traded to the Yankees in July 2015.

Ackley batted just .148 in 61 at-bats for New York last season. He tore the labrum in his right shoulder and underwent season-ending surgery.

Ackley has a .241 career average with 46 homers and 216 RBIs in 635 games.
