ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Right-handed pitcher Tyson Ross made just one start in 2016 after taking the hill on opening day for the San Diego Padres.

A shoulder issue stopped Ross from regaining his All-Star form. It could also be what eventually ended his tenure with the Padres, after the team chose to non-tender the starter instead of going to arbitration.

The Texas Rangers signed Ross to a one-year deal Friday, according to MLB.com. Ross is due to make $6 million plus incentives, according to Jeff Passan. Ross, 29, led MLB with 33 starts in 2015. In 2014, he earned an National League All-Star nod after going 13-14 with a 2.81 ERA.

Padres general manager A.J. Preller told the San Diego Union-Tribune in December that the team would consider re-signing Ross "at a lower price range."

Ross is recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery on his right shoulder. Jon Heyman reported in December that the Rangers, Padres, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, and Pittsburgh Pirates were among "20 or so teams" interested in the free agent.
