The St. Louis Cardinals and first baseman Matt Adams reached agreement on a one-year, $2.8 million deal on Thursday.

The settlement comes one day before teams must exchange salary figures with arbitration-eligible players who remain unsigned.

Adams made $1.65 million last season when he batted .249 with 16 homers and 54 RBIs.

The left-handed-hitting Adams will likely be a reserve this season as the club plans to move infielder Matt Carpenter to first base.

The list of unsigned St. Louis players who are eligible for arbitration includes right-handers Carlos Martinez, Trevor Rosenthal and Michael Wacha and left-hander Kevin Siegrist.
