Oakland Athletics "have reached out" to slugger Mark Trumbo

OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A home run champion could be swinging in the Bay Area again before you know it.

The Oakland Athletics "have reached out" to Mark Trumbo, according to FanRag Sports.

Trumbo, 30, led the American League with 47 home runs last season for the Baltimore Orioles. The two-time All-Star has 178 career home runs and is a lifetime .251 hitter. Trumbo's highest home run total before last season was the 34 long-balls he hit in 2013.

Trumbo made $9.15 million last season. The Athletics were courting Edwin Encarnacion before he agreed to a $60 million pact with the Cleveland Indians. The team signed Rajai Davis to a one-year, $6 million deal Monday. Trumbo has also drawn interest from the Indians, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and Orioles.

Roch Kubatko reported on Dec. 11 that the Orioles had the "best offer on the table" for Trumbo.

ESPN's Buster Olney reported on Dec. 5 that the Orioles were "willing to discuss a 4-year deal" in the range of $52 million to $55 million. Olney said Trumbo countered with $75 to $80 million with a full no-trade clause, before talks stalled. The Orioles later pulled the offer.
