PITTSBURGH, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Daniel Hudson is trekking out east after agreeing to a two-year, $11 million deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday.

The right-handed reliever passed his physical Monday morning. Last season he owned a 5.22 ERA and had 58 strikeouts in 60.1 innings for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has had Tommy John surgery twice since beginning his career in 2010.

Hudson, who had five saves last season, could compete with Tony Watson for the Pirates' closer role.

Earlier this month, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Pirates were among the teams interested in the 29-year-old free agent. Jon Heyman, of FanRag Sports, reported that as many as 16 teams were interested in his services.
