Aroldis Chapman seeing offers in excess of $80 million

CHICAGO, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Many baseball fans remember the last time they saw Aroldis Chapman pitching.

It was in Game 7 of the World Series. The closer was brought to tears after blowing a relief appearance for the Chicago Cubs when he allowed the Cleveland Indians to tie the most important game of the season in the eighth inning.

Luckily, his unmatched fastball led him to 36 saves, 90 strikeouts, and a 1.55 ERA in 58 innings before the meltdown.

The free agent left-hander has offers for more than $80 million, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Heyman reported that the New York Yankees are the top contender for Chapman. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, and Washington Nationals also have interest.

Bryan Hoch reported that the Yankees made offers to Chapman and Kenley Jansen, who are both seeking big bucks after seeing Mark Melancon cash in for $62 million.

Chapman, 28, played his first six seasons for the Cincinnati Reds, before being traded to the Yankees in 2015. The Yankees traded him to the Cubs last season for four minor league prospects.
