Atlanta Braves ship Erick Aybar to Detroit Tigers for Mike Aviles

ATLANTA, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Two teams swapped role players Tuesday as baseball's playoffs near.

The Atlanta Braves sent infielder Erick Aybar to the Detroit Tigers for utility player Mike Aviles and minor league catcher Kade Scivicque.

Aybar, 32, is hitting .242 with two home runs and 26 RBI this season. Aviles, 35, is hitting .210, with one home run and six RBI in 68 games.

Both players become free agents in 2017. Aybar is due $8.5 million this season and Aviles is due $2 million this season. Aviles is a career .262 hitter, with 59 career home runs. Aybar is a career .274 hitter, with 50 career long balls.

The Tigers are currently in second place in the American League Central, while the Braves are in last place in the National League East.
