Prince Fielder expected to retire

ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Texas Rangers designated hitter Prince Fielder is expected to announce his retirement Wednesday.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported the news, after hearing about it from several sources. Dallas Morning News reporter Evan Grant confirmed the report. The Rangers are set to have a press conference tomorrow regarding the 32-year-old. Fielder is guaranteed $20 million annually through 2020. He recently had his second neck fusion surgery.

The Rangers transferred Fielder from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list on Aug. 1.

Fielder is hitting .212, with eight home runs and 44 RBI in 89 games this season. He has hit .283, with 319 home runs over 12 years in MLB. Fielder is a six-time All-Star.
