Harper is due $5 million in 2016 but is eligible for arbitration in 2017. Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo told MLB.com that the team has had talks with Harper's agent, Scott Boras, regarding an extension.

"He's a great player," Rizzo said. "A core player of the Nationals, and we'd love to have him here for a long, long time."
