BMW Championship: Jason Day hits hole-in-one, donates BMW to charity

By Alex Butler

Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Jason Day is three strokes off the lead at the BMW Championship on the strength of a hole-in-one.

The Australian sank the ace on hole No. 17 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill. Day was two-under par heading onto hole No. 14. He hit an eagle on that hole and made par on the next two before writing a 1 on his scorecard on No. 17. Day finished Round 2 by making par on No. 18 for a round of 65.

"It's kind of strange," Day told PGATour.com. "I mean, obviously, I think we were just talking about earlier that, you know, it's been I think 10 years since the last time I had a hole-in-one. You know, I've had two eagles and a hole-one-one this week already, so it's just...I think everything's coming in bunches right now."

Day was brilliant on the ace, he smacked the shot with an iron. He looked away briefly before the ball hit the fringe and kicked forward toward the hole before rolling in. Day won a new BMW M760i for sinking the 188-yard drive. He donated the car and BMW made a $100,000 donation to charity.

"We definitely, to be out here on Tour we give back a lot and BMW be able to give back as well to a student being able to go through college is huge," Day said, according to Golf.com. "That's why earlier I said I'm going to donate that car back to help another student because I am in a fortunate position and being able to not only impact one person but be able to impact another person's life, to be able to get them to go through college as well is huge."

Day is sponsored by Lexus. He won the tournament in 2015. Day is paired with leader Marc Leishman for Round 3 on Saturday.
