Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Rory McIlroy was very pleased with his shot Friday when he skipped the golf ball off of the cart path on hole No. 10 at the 2017 PGA Championship.
McIlroy was two-storkes over par heading into the hole after carding a bogey on No. 9 at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.
His tee shot on No. 10 went off to the right of the fairway. His second shot rolled down a small road near the 11th tee. McIlroy eyed bunkers on the hole before walking down a short hill on the path. He told the fans that they might have to move back for his next approach.
McIlroy took a few practice strokes before swiping through the grass and making contact with the ball with his 6-iron. His shot was a beautiful, low-hanging drive, skipping off of the top of the hill and bouncing over the bunkers. It landed just off of the green.

"It was really the only option I had," McIlroy told the Golf Channel. "I dropped it in a pretty bad lie, so I couldn't carry it over the cart path. So I hit a 6-iron. Just said, 'OK, I'll bounce it up the cart path and see where this goes."
"I was just trying to get it in the bunker, and luckily I hit it with enough speed, and it got up and out of there."
He chipped the next shot within a few feet of the hole and putted in for a five on the hole.
McIlroy was carded a one-over-par 72 Friday and is 10 strokes behind tournament leader Kevin Kisner heading into the weekend.
