LPGA: Sei Young Kim ties Cristie Kerr for lead in Scottish Open

Veterans Karrie Webb and Cristie Kerr shared the top of the leaderboard for much of the first three days in the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, but Sei Young Kim of South Korea decided she wanted a piece of the action.

The 24-year-old Kim made two late birdies to card a 3-under-par 69 in windy, rainy conditions on Saturday to tie Webb for the lead after three rounds at Dundonald Links in North Ayrshire, Scotland.

"I've never played before like in this weather," said Kim, who has won six times on the LPGA Tour after claiming five victories on the LPGA of Korea Tour.

"It was a really great experience and to play with, it's rare to play with veteran players Cristie Kerr and Karrie Webb. They are really great players."

Webb, the Hall of Famer from Australia who on Sunday can tie Sandra Haynie for ninth with 42 PGA Tour victories, birdied three of the first seven holes, but had two bogeys on the back nine for a 70.

Kim and Webb have 54-hole totals of 210.

"That back nine was definitely a struggle once it started raining," said Webb, 42, who was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2005. "Just really hung in there on the back nine. I actually got a couple of good breaks when it was raining. Made some good ups and downs as well."

Kerr, who led after a first-round 66, also had two bogeys on the back nine in a 73 that left her two strokes back in solo third.

"I played a lot better than the score today," said the 39-year-old Kerr, who has 19 LPGA Tour victories. "I had two three-putts on the back which were kind of uncharacteristic. Just got to do better."

Carolta Ciganda of Spain shot 70 and is four back in a tie for fourth with Sun Young Yoo of South Korea, who totaled 73, while Mi Hyang Lee of South Korea posted a 68 and is six down in a tie for sixth with Georgia Hall of England, who had a 72, and Olafia Kristinsdottir of Iceland, who came in at 73.

Mi Jung Hur of South Korea and Cydney Clanton recorded 72s and are another shot back in a tie for ninth with Minjee Lee of Australia, who shot 73.
