July 21 (UPI) -- Women's golfer Lexi Thompson threw it way back for a social media clap-back at the LPGA for its updated dress code regulations.

LPGA player president Vicki Goetze-Ackerman wrote an email to the tour's players July 2, notifying them of the new apparel rules.

Those regulations included a ban on plunging necklines, wearing leggings as pants and joggers, according to Golf Digest. The rules also state that appropriate attire should be worn to pro-am parties.

The penalty for violating the dress code will be $1,000. That fine doubles with each offense, according to Goetze-Ackerman. The new dress code took effect Monday.

Thompson said she was joking when she responded to the new rules on Thursday night.

"Got my new #LPGA dress code compliant outfit ready to go! #throwbackthursday #kidding #funny #joke," Thompson wrote in the caption for her social media photo.

The photo came from a shoot Thompson did in January for Red Bull. She wore a hat, long skirt and sweater, all of which looked like it came from the 1900s.

Thompson currently ranks as the No. 3 golfer in the world, behind So Yeon Ryu and Ariya Jutanugarn. She has more than $6.5 million in career earnings. Her last win came in May at the Kingsmill Championship.
