COMING UP

PGA TOUR: 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England, Thursday through Sunday.

TV: Thursday and Friday, 1:30 a.m.-4 p.m. EDT, on the Golf Channel; Saturday, 4:30-7 a.m. EDT on the Golf Channel and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. EDT on NBC; and Sunday, 4-7 a.m. EDT on the Golf Channel and 7 a.m.-2 p.m. EDT on NBC.

LAST YEAR: Henrik Stenson became the first Swedish man to win a golf major title, outplaying Phil Mickelson down the stretch with four birdies on the final five holes to claim a three-stroke victory at Royal Troon. Stenson, who has won 19 times as a pro, tied the major championship record with a bogey-free 8-under-par 63, the 29th time a player has posted that score. He finished at 20 under, tying the lowest score in relation to par in a major set by Jason Day in the 2015 PGA Championship. Mickelson, a five-time major champion who was seeking his first victory since beating Stenson by three shots the 2013 Open at Muirfield, shot a bogey-free 65 in the final round after lipping out a putt on the final hole the day before that would have given him a record 62.

PGA TOUR: Barbasol Championship on the Lake Course at Grand National on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Opelika, Ala., Thursday through Sunday.

LAST YEAR: Aaron Baddeley broke a 5 1/2-year winless streak on the PGA Tour by sinking a 24-foot birdie putt on the fourth extra hole to beat Si Woo Kim of South Korea. Baddeley, who won for the fourth time on the circuit but the first time since the 2011 Northern Trust Open at Riviera, finished with scores of 66-64-66 to get into the playoff. Kim, whose two PGA Tour victories came in the 2014 Wyndham Championship and the 2017 Players Championship, went 68-65-63 over the same stretch. Baddeley will not defend his title because he has qualified for the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS: The Senior Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Bridgend, Wales, July 27-30.

TV: Thursday and Friday, 7-9:30 a.m. EDT and 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT on the Golf Channel; Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 a.m.-noon EDT on the Golf Channel, and noon-2 p.m. EDT on NBC.

LAST YEAR: Paul Broadhurst of England, who has won 11 times in his pro career, came from four strokes back in the final round to capture his first major title by two strokes over Scott McCarron at Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland. Broadhurst, who was in danger of missing the cut when he opened with a 3-over-par 75, played the last three rounds in 66-68-68. McCarron got close with three birdies early on the back nine in the final round before two late bogeys left him with a 69. Broadhurst joined Mark James and Roger Chapman as the only Englishmen to win a PGA Tour Champions major title.

LPGA TOUR: Marathon Classic at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio, Thursday through Sunday.

TV: Thursday and Friday, 8-10 p.m. EDT; Saturday, 7-9 p.m. EDT; and Sunday, 9-11 p.m. EDT; on the Golf Channel all four days.

LAST YEAR: Lydia Ko of New Zealand made a 10-foot birdie putt on the fourth playoff hole to turn back Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand and Mirim Lee of South Korea, collecting her fourth victory of the season on the LPGA Tour and the 14th of her career. Surprisingly, she has not won since. Ko, who also won the Marathon Classic in 2014, shot 2-under-par 69 in the final round, while Lee posted a 65 and Jutanugarn had a 68 to force the playoff. Third-round leader Hyo Joo Kim struggled to a 73 and finished one stroke back.
