Sweden's David Lingmerth overcame a rough performance on Saturday to exit the third round with a one-stroke lead at the Quicken Loans National in Potomac, Md.

Lingmerth followed up consecutive rounds of 65 to card a 3-over-par 73 on Saturday at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm.

The 29-year-old Lingmerth's 7-under 203 for the tournament is one stroke better than Daniel Summerhays, who struggled with his putting game and finished with a 70 on Saturday. Summerhays is seeking his first PGA Tour victory in his 189th start this week.

Lingmerth is attempting to go wire-to-wire to record his second PGA Tour win, as he was victorious at the 2015 Memorial Tournament. Lingmerth won a Web.com Tour event, the Neediest Kids Championship, at this venue in 2012.

"I haven't had the wire-to-wire scenario in my career, but a lot of great players have won tournaments that way and I would like to do it as well," Lingmerth said. "I'm kind of feeling like I'm up for the challenge."

Lingmerth sputtered out of the gate on Saturday, collecting a bogey on the first hole and finding the water at No. 4 en route to a double-bogey. A weather-related delay of approximately 90 minutes provided a break, but Lingmerth added two more bogeys and a birdie on the back nine to close out his round.

Summerhays is right on Lingmerth's heels. The 33-year-old is in contention for the first time since the Memorial Tournament, in which he led by three strokes after 54 holes before carding a final-round 78 to finish tied for 10th place.

"I struck the ball extremely well," Summerhays said. "I've had a lot of great looks, so maybe I just need to persuade that ball into the cup a little bit more."

Spencer Levin resides in third place at 5-under after recording the best round of the day with a 65.

"It was the best round I've had all year by far," Levin said after his six-birdie performance. "It's been a tough year, but the putts have been going in this week, which is obviously why I'm playing well."

Curtis Luck (67), who is the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, and fellow Australian Geoff Ogilvy (74) are joined by South Korean Sung-hoon Kang (71) at 4-under. Charles Howell III and Kyle Stanley each shot a 67 on Saturday to sit at 3-under.

Keegan Bradley capped his third-round 70 in fine style with a walk-off eagle, putting him in a tie for 12th place at 1-under.

Rickie Fowler (68), who is ranked ninth in the world, jumped 19 spots to a tie for 18th at even par.

Billy Hurley III, the defending champion, is tied for 60th place at 6-over.
