PGA's Rickie Fowler aces Par 3 at TPC Sawgrass

By Alex Butler

May 11 (UPI) -- Golfer Rickie Fowler won The Players Championship in 2015. He looks ready to do it again, hitting a hole-in-one in practice.

Fowler stepped up to the tee box Wednesday and went straight at the pin on No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass. Golfers were hitting the pristine links at The Players Stadium course before Thursday's start of the tournament in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

He needed no tee to hole out, penning a 1 on his scorecard after swiping the ball cleanly off the grass.

The par-3 hole is known as one of the most infamous in golf, with an island green. Fowler played the course with friend Justin Thomas. Thomas tweeted his (fake) gratitude after Fowler's achievement.

"Hit it to a foot... lose the hole. Thanks @RickieFowler," Thomas said.

Fowler chronicled the hole on his Snapchat account, recording himself walking to the hole to pick up his ball.

As PGA.com noted, special things happen when Thomas and Fowler play as partners. In 2016, the duo each marked aces on their scorecards after holing them back-to-back at the 2016 Masters Par 3 contest.

Fowler, 28, is having a great season. He won the Feb. 26 Honda Classic and has five top-5 finishes.

Thomas is ranked No. 10 and Fowler is listed at No. 9 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Fowler was tied for first place Thursday before heading back to the 17th green.
