SAN ANTONIO -- Bud Cauley fired a 6-under-par 66 in the morning wave of the second round of the Valero Texas Open in Friday and was at 8-under 136 and one stroke up on Cameron Smith as the first half of the field was in the clubhouse.

Cauley, who has never won on the PGA Tour in 108 starts, carded six birdies and no bogeys in his second round after an opening-round 70 on Thursday. He missed eight of 18 greens in the second round but managed par each time, ranking at the top of the field in scrambling for the round.
