Amy Yang rolls to victory at LPGA Thailand

South Korean Amy Yang closed with a 4-under 68 on Sunday to win by five strokes at the LPGA Thailand in Chonburi, Thailand.

Third-round play on Saturday was suspended due to darkness, forcing Yang to play her final five holes of the round on Sunday morning, and she led by five strokes after 54 holes.

Yang, who also won the event in 2015, birdied the final hole to set a new tournament scoring record at 22-under 266 on the Pattaya Old Course at Siam Country Club and pick up her third career LPGA victory.

"I am beyond happy, I had so many early wakeup calls this week," said Yang, who had to play 31 holes on Saturday and 23 on Sunday. "I had to stay patient out there."

Yang is projected to move up from No. 11 to No. 5 in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.

Yang bested the previous tournament record by one stroke set by Suzann Pettersen in 2007 and Ai Miyazato in 2010.

"It's always nice to be back here playing." Yang said when asked about her success in Thailand. "I love this place. I love people here. And with my parents, spending time with them here, it's just great every time."

So Yeon Ryu, the 2011 U.S. Women's Open champion, matched Yang with a 68 to finish second at 17 under. Fellow South Korean Sei Young Kim (68) was third at 15 under.

Lexi Thompson shot a final-round 67 for the best round of the day to finish in a tie for fourth at 13 under with fellow American Danielle Kang (68).

World No. 1 Lydia Ko of New Zealand shot a closing 68 and tied for eighth, 11 strokes back.

Sisters Moriya and Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand both finished in the top 10 after shooting final-round 71s. Moriya finished in solo seventh place at 12 under, while world No. 2 Ariya Jutanugarn was a shot behind in a tie for eighth at 11 under.
