Tiger Woods will find himself touring Torrey Pines with Jason Day and Dustin Johnson when he begins play in the Farmers Insurance Open on Thursday.

The event will mark Woods' first appearance in a PGA event in 17 months due to two back surgeries.

Woods is slated to tee off at 10:40 a.m. local time (1:40 p.m. ET) on Thursday as he begins his comeback.

Woods will be in the same threesome with Day, the top-ranked player in the world, and Johnson for the first two days of the event. Johnson is ranked third and won the 2016 U.S. Open.

The threesome will play the tougher South Course on Thursday before moving to the North Course on Friday.

"I know that he's very motivated to come out and play well," Day told reporters. "I think he's excited. Who wouldn't be excited to play after 17 months off? That's a long time."

Woods, 41, has experienced a lot of success at the courses in La Jolla, just north of San Diego. He has eight victories at Torrey Pines, including the memorable 2008 U.S. Open when he outdueled Rocco Mediate in a 19-hole playoff.

The 2008 win marks the last time Woods won a major.

Woods is ranked 663rd in the world as he begins his quest to regain his form.

Brandt Snedeker is the defending champion.
